Who are we?

We are the music makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams.

- Arthur O'Shaughnessy

I am a licensed teacher by trade and a drummer by nature. From the time I was five years of age, drumming has been a constant in my life. A simple explanation for this might be that...

Drumming helps me understand myself
and my place in the world. I know this is true for others as well.

Through my work with people of all ages, I have discovered that drumming initiates depth of understanding and higher-order thinking skills. Whether the focus leans towards academia or social ends...

Self-knowing and confidence are at the heart of rhythmic exploration.

Over the last 15 years, I have seen positive results from drumming, whether in a classroom environment or the local detention center, and just about everything in between. The toughest part of bringing my passion into the community has always been...

Gaining access to enough drums.

I started out using "office-variety" water-cooler bottles because they produced some tone, and were provided free-of-charge by local companies. Later, after acquiring money through community service grants, as well as a generous shop owner's willingness to provide a few "lenders", I was able to accommodate larger groups of people. But this involved running around town, gathering instruments, and hopefully getting to the gig on time. Based on the positive feedback I got from everyone I drummed with, I began to wonder why all these people don't just go out and by a drum. It would sure make my commute a lot easier!

Ahhh, but drums are very expensive…! It's easy for me to justify dropping $150-$300 on a hand drum because...

I established drumming as a personal value long, long ago, therefore, it became a goal to design inexpensive drums for beginners to easily access the world of rhythm.

We at Roxy Rhythm have recently accomplished this goal, and I can honestly say these drums are not only affordable, but durable as well. I am currently teaching in a middle school and we drum together every day. The real-skin heads lend a natural feel, and because every person built and decorated their own drum...

A true sense of ownership and pride characterizes the music we make together.

Sincerely,
Todd Strandberg
